Connecting Downtown Port Perry

In the fall of 2012, construction began on a multi-use access network covering the downtown Port Perry business area. One of the uses of this network is to provide standard WiFi coverage througouht the downtown area. The free network broadcasts as “Port Perry WiFi”, and allows guests and casual users 60 minute sessions, up to 10 times in 30 days.

For users that want additional time, vouchers can be purchased from participating merchants. A 24 hour pass retails for $5 incl. HST, and a 72 hour (3 day) pass retails for $10 incl. HST. For regular users, a monthly pre-paid network is now in place where users can create their own account, and connect to an encrypted network without the need to go through the landing page each time they connect. The pre-paid service also gives users higher upload and download speeds (up to 5Mb symmetric). Monthly pre-paid cards are $20 incl. HST

Late in 2013, an outdoor audio distribution system came on-line just in time to provide Christmas music to shoppers and visitors to the downtown. Music can now be heard from Herringtons Quality Meats to the Pantry Shelf. The system also allows live event audio to be distributed during events. If you operate a business downtown and wish to participate, please contact our sales department, or the Port Perry BIA.

Coming mid-2014 is a fiber to the home and fiber to the business service. If you live or work downtown, you may soon have access to Internet speeds among the fastest in the country! A high quality, affordable telephone service will be offered to complete the package. If you are interested, please contact your building owner and let them know that you want Communicate Freely Fiber!
